Safeguarding at Grit & Growth

At Grit & Growth, the safety and well-being of children and young people is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive environment where young people can develop confidence, physical skills, and resilience through strength and conditioning activities.

This safeguarding approach applies to all Grit & Growth activities, including holiday camps, school-based sessions, and community programmes.

Our Commitment

We believe that:

  • Every child and young person has the right to feel safe and respected
  • The welfare of the child is always paramount
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
  • All young people should be able to take part in physical activity free from harm, abuse, or discrimination

Keeping Young People Safe

  • To protect children and young people, Grit & Growth ensures that:
  • All coaches and staff working with under-18s hold appropriate PVG membership
  • Staff follow a clear Code of Conduct
  • Sessions are delivered in line with recognised best practice for youth sport
  • Appropriate risk assessments are carried out
  • Safeguarding procedures follow Scottish guidance, including GIRFEC

Coaching & Physical Contact

Strength and conditioning coaching may involve appropriate physical contact for:

  • Demonstration
  • Safety
  • Injury prevention
  • Any physical contact is:
  • Explained in advance
  • Appropriate to the activity
  • With the young person’s consent
  • Kept to a minimum and conducted professionally

Reporting a Concern

If a child, parent, carer, or professional has a safeguarding concern related to Grit & Growth:

  • Concerns can be raised directly with our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • All concerns are taken seriously and handled sensitively
  • Where necessary, concerns will be shared with schools, local authority services, or statutory agencies to protect the child

Photography & Media

  • Photos or videos of young people are only taken with parent/carer consent
  • Images are used respectfully and never shared without permission
  • Children are not identified by their full name
